Narrative Supervision in Melbourne

ACA-Accredited Individual and Group Supervision

Supporting counsellors, therapists, and community workers across Melbourne and Australia to grow with confidence, balance, and professional integrity.

Are you currently using Narrative Practice yourself, curious about it, or just looking for supportive, strengths-based supervision?

There are a lot of ways to grow your practice. Narrative Supervision is about collaboration, curiosity, and connection, and helps you reflect on your practice through community, values, and the meaning you make with your clients.

Whether you’re an emerging counsellor or an experienced therapist, supervision offers a place to slow down, reflect, and develop your wisdom.

What Is Narrative Supervision and Why Does It Matter

Narrative Supervision is built on the same principles that guide narrative therapy — seeing people as separate from their problems, and recognising the stories that shape their lives and work.

Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, it invites reflection on what’s working, what you value, and how your stories of practice evolve.

You’ll explore ideas like:

  • How your values and identity show up in your sessions
  • Ways to hold ethical, respectful conversations with clients
  • How to stay connected to your professional purpose — especially when work gets heavy

Curious About Narrative Supervision in Melbourne Australia?

Narrative Supervision in Melbourne could be a good fit for you if…

  • You want to explore your connection to the work, community, and your values, and how these play into your practice.
  • You’d like your reflective space to connect to your participants and create strategies specific to your role and context.
  • You find that metaphors, stories, patterns, and cultural wisdom play a role in your conversations.
  • You know you have knowledge and wisdom of your own to bring to supervision, and want to collaborate, not be lectured to
  • You prefer supervision that is human, relational, and affirming of the ways you already practice.

Narrative Supervision shares the key elements you’ll find in any type of supervision — support, suggestions, learning, and discussion. The unique aspect lies in the values and ways of communicating.

You’ll find space to

  • Reflect on your practice with curiosity and care.
  • Identify your professional values and boundaries.
  • Reconnect with the reasons you chose this work.
  • Learn creative ways to respond to challenges through narrative maps and metaphors.

Individual Supervision

Like all individual supervision, we work together to figure out what is most helpful to you. There will be a mixture of discussing cases, talking about your thoughts and feelings, getting answers to your professional questions, and supporting you to keep growing and learning.

Group Supervision

My supervision groups take inspiration from Vikki Reynold’s Supervision of Solidarity, using some of the processes she has outlined and holding community, social justice, and resisting burnout at the heart of each session.

Each group is intended to be ongoing and consistent, so we can build on conversations and knowledge together. They have a clear structure to make space for sharing, understanding, asking questions, and offering support.

How Narrative Supervision Works

Narrative Supervision is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and grounded in genuine curiosity. It’s about discovering the sparkling moments in your work, and uncovering the hidden strengths you’ve been using all along.

Supervision focuses on:

  • Reflecting, exploring, and understanding without judgement
  • A balance of professional growth and personal well-being
  • Respect for your existing knowledge and experience
  • Warmth, humour, and a commitment to ethical practice

You’ll leave sessions feeling grounded, supported, and clearer about your next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s Narrative Therapy all about?

Narrative therapy seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach that centres people as the experts in their own lives (and practices).

Not at all! It’s one way to run supervision that has been successfully used in all kinds of work, and with all kinds of professionals. If you’re interested in non-pathologising and strengths-based practice, you might find that this style of supervision will help you connect to and strengthen those values in your practice.

Not inherently, but you’re welcome to bring any practice journaling into supervision. “Narrative” is about exploring people’s stories and using certain techniques to support their own understandings. Many Narrative therapists use creative therapies and integrate art, movement, and nature in their work.

There is! A few practitioners have talked and written about supervision through a Narrative lens, and you can find a good introduction to suggested practices HERE.

Another great resource is Vicki Reynolds, who coined Supervision of Solidarity to describe peer supervision informed by activists and social justice.
